Tributes flow in for ‘Stormin’ Norman Berryman




It was only just recently
the passing away of All Blacks great
Jerry Collins was mourned.
Today, Northland rugby legend
Norman Berryman has passed away
at the age of 42,
in Perth, Australia.
It is believed he died
of a heart attack.
The one test All Black played
107 games
for his beloved
Northland Taniwha side.
He also played for the Blues,
the Highlanders and the Chiefs.
He played several games
for the Maori All Blacks.
Raniera Harrison remembers one
of his childhood heroes.
A great kauri has fallen -
his flair and skill lost forever
from these playing fields.
Remembering one of the greatest
rugby players
to ever play for Northland -
Norman Rangi Berryman
sadly passed away at his home
in Perth, Australia.
Heart attack is being cited
as the cause.
One of his closest confidants
is still searching for answers
for this sudden death.
He was a revered cult figure
in Northland rugby,
with a cheekiness
that bought happiness to everyone,
the reason why he played
the 107 games in Northland.
Berryman played his single test
for the All Blacks in 1998
against the Springboks.
He also ran out for the Chiefs,
Blues, and ultimately
the Crusaders from 1998-2000.
Tributes to Norm came in from the
rugby community who are in shock.
Even new Blues head coach
Tana Umaga, paid his respects.
Although he was a hard man,
revered on-field,
he was very much the family man.
He is survived by his wife,
and six children.
A taniwha in his own right - now
with the pantheons of the greats.
