RIT on TV: RIT Terrorism Expert comments on Paris Attacks
Anchor>> ISIS has claimed responsibility for
the attacks---the group posted a message to
its platforms calling the attacks andquot; The first
of the storm.andquot;
RIT anti- terrorism professor, Robert Gerace
reminds us terrorism can happen anywhere.
It is an attack on innocent people who are
carrying out their normal routines. It is
intended to create acts of violence which
provide a destabilization of the economy and
create fear among the people for political
purposes.
Gerace>> The terrorists are trying to disrupt
our way of life. Our stability. Our stable
economy and so forth. My suggestion for fellow
Rochesterians is to go to work next week.
And do a really really good job. And keep
our economy strong. That's what the terrorists
are seeking to disrupt. And the second thing
is, if you see something, say something.
Anchor>> Gerace says Paris was a prime target
for this type of activity because it fits
the mold of a soft target-----a popular, populous
city----with little to no security at the
points of attack.

Spokesperson Kirby on Terrorist Attacks in Indonesia, Turkey
MR KIRBY: The United States strongly condemns
todayâ™s terrorist attack in Jakarta, and
again, we extend our condolences to all those
who were affected by it. We stand firmly with
the Indonesian people against terrorism and
extremist ideologies that fuel and give rise
to this kind of violence. And as you may have
seen, as Secretary Kerry said this morning
in London, we join international condemnation
of this attack. And as he also said, acts
of terror are not going to intimidate nation-states;
weâ™re going to stand together, all of us
united in our efforts to eliminate those who
choose terror as a tactic. Weâ™re going to
continue to, obviously, work with our Indonesian
partners and others around the world to combat
these shared threats.
In addition to the attacks in Indonesia, I
do want to note that we also strongly condemn
yesterdayâ™s terrorist bombings in Diyarbakir
in Turkey and extend our condolences again
to all those who were affected, killed, and
wounded, as well as their family and friends.
Turkey is a friend and a NATO ally, and we
will continue to stand with the Turkish people
as they continue to deal with very real terrorist
threats on their soil.
