Do I really care about my followers?!? Tumblr Tuesday!! #KatiFAQ - YOUTUBERS REACT TO BABYMETAL

Do I really care about my followers?!? Tumblr Tuesday!! #KatiFAQ

Hey everybody, happy Tuesday.
I'm back, I'm Vlogging.
Hope you don't get sick of me.
And it took me a while to get back in the groove,
because I forgot what Tuesday even meant.
And it means that I'm on tumblr.
So for those of you who don't remember where I am on what days, I'll put it below in the description like I used to in my Vlogs, I just have to find that word document, interesting.
Okay, so I'm on tumblr.
Without further adue, here's my first question.
'Yay #KatiFAQ is back'
Yay!
'So here's my question, I have been emotionally abused and bullied and my mum still yells instead of actually'
'speaking to me. When people shout at me or when someone fights or shouts, even at someone else, it doesn't'
'even have to involve me. I get really upset and I cry, and end up even having a panic attack.'
'How normal is that? And can I do something to prevent it?'
Now my guess would be that being yelled at and being bullied and having all that stuff happen has been really traumatic.
And the response that you're having is
that of like a PTSD response.
And I would venture to say that you might be struggling with PTSD. And it's very normal for us to have panic attacks,
to feel overwhelmed, to like 'ahh' we freak out, we can't even handle it. Right. And it's a very normal response.
And my, um, I actually have a video about PTSD. If some of you are watching and are like 'What is PTSD, I don't understand',
you can search on my channel 'PTSD' - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and it will come up.
And you can watch it and learn about it.
But I would encourage you to work
with your therapist on this.
Now I know that it is really hard, because one of the things that we have to do when it comes to PTSD and working through traumas in general is to talk through them in detail,
so that we can process through it and we can move on.
Now I know that it sounds really painful but I promise you promise you promise you that it will be so much better
when you don't have to fight and deal with these struggles and panic attacks all the time. Okay.
I hope that helps.
Question number two:
'So glad the FAQ is back , yay,'
Me too.
'How does a BPD - Borderline Personality Disorder person get diagnosed. I mean not just the symptoms, the whole diagnosis. Is there a specific age or a test?'
Now, there's a couple of things. First of all, if you are watching and you are wondering what the hell is BPD,
it stands for 'Borderline Personality Disorder', and I have a video on that too. So you can get on my channel and you can search for it.
Because, the chances are, if you are asking a question right now on one of my sites, search my channel first.
Because I've probably already answered it, because I have like hundreds of videos.
Okay. So. Now, referencing that video, that you should watch if you wonder what borderline is,
you have to meet the diagnostic criteria through that. And that's what that is. Now, there is no specific test.
Someone may have tried to come up with a specific test, but there really isn't one that's empirically supported that I feel comfortable using.
I use my own clinical judgement based on the symptoms that you are demonstrating and showing.
And then I make a diagnosis. Now, there is a specific age. For personality disorders, they encourage. I guess I should say that they discourage diagnosis before age 18.
Because the thought is that we're not completely developed into the adults that we are going to be, I would even say that at 18 I wasn't a fully developed adult at all.
But we can't diagnose personality disorders, because personality disorders are something that they believe
to be a long term struggle, and they want to make sure that it actually isn't just adolescents and the struggles
of going from, in high school, or going from high school to college, or any of that stuff. They want to make sure that it's something that you're struggling with separate from that.
So they will hold diagnosing you with a personality disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder being one of those, until you are over 18.
Now I hope that that clears that up.
Okay, question number three:
'I had my first two therapy appointments'
It is getting windy out, holy moly. Okay.
'I had my first two therapy appointments and it is going well. But I have bad dreams about it, really big bad dreams'
'about it before. Is this normal? Should I bother to bring it up? How do I bring it up in therapy?'
I would definitely bring it up. And it is very normal. Often times I have said before, things will get sometimes worse before they get better.
Because in therapy, if you are just starting therapy. Which it sounds like you are. You haven't really dug in to all that stuff
before. So now that that stuff is happening and you're digging in to it, and you're going through it, it can feel
like you're almost reliving past traumas, or past bad experiences, or whatever.
It can actually make us almost relive them, and it can cause bad dreams, it can cause panic attacks and anxieties,
stuff, depression. Things like that, because we have to dig into it to, to number one figure out what we are struggling
with and what we're working on. And then number two, we then have to work on coping skills to deal with it, and we have to process through it all at the same time.
And I know that's kind of confusing, it's like 'Whoa, there's a lot going on'. But there is a lot going on.
So, give yourself the time. Be patient, and yes I would bring it up in therapy. I would say something to the affect of
'You know I'm really enjoying our sessions, but I find that before I come I'm having these terrible nightmares. And I'
'don't know if it's because I have never talked about this stuff before or something. But is there anything that I can do to kind of help alleviate that?'
And I think bringing it up, and just being honest about it will help your therapist understand where you are at.
And maybe go a little slower, or maybe give you some new coping skills to work for that in the mean time.
Okay. I hope that helps.
And if any of you have struggled with this and you have things that have worked for you, leave your comments below.
Now question number four:
'Hi Kati, can you talk about what kind of notes therapists'
'take. My therapist doesn't write down anything while I talk, thank god. But what would she write down after?'
'I know she has to put stuff in her insurance notes, but I mean her private notes. Thanks'
Now, not all therapists take a bunch of notes.
Everybody is different.
There are certain legal and ethical standards that we are supposed to uphold.
Obviously for insurance, which isn't what you're really asking about, but for insurance it's the bare bones
of what they need. It's the diagnosis, as well as why we believe that you meet the criteria. That's it.
Now for our own personal notes, it's more along the lines, it's kind of hard to figure out what I would write.
Because it differs from person to person. But you pretty much talk about how they are presenting, that being
are they clean, have they showered, are they dressed well?
Because that can lead us to talk about depression or anxiety, or they are struggling to get out of bed.
Or whatever it is that we are working on. So how are they presenting, what their week was like, if you see them every week.
I see most of my clients each week, so you know, what was their week like. Is there anything they struggling with. And what we are working on. And what can I check up on later.
And often times in my notes when I first meet my clients, there will be a lot of names and dates.
Because I want to remember who boyfriend is, what their sister's name is, what their mom's name is, what's the year difference between them and their siblings.
So I know who is the oldest and I can keep up with the family tree and stuff like that.
When I take the history it's important to know that. So that's most likely what they are putting down.
I always tell my clients 'If you want to read my notes, you can go ahead and read them. It's nothing that you don't already know.'
Although, I don't think I've ever had a client ask to read them. But they could if they want.
So it's really just a way for us to keep track of what we are doing and how we are working with you. And building our treatment plan.
Okay. I hope that helps.
Now, question number five, final question.
Drum roll please.
'Do you really care about your followers? How can you genuinely care about people that you have never met?'
This person is very suspicious of me, apparently.
Yes I genuinely care.
Why would I do this, why would I be taking time out of my day every day to do this. And to comment on comments, and answer questions, and to tweet tweets and do things.
Of course I care. And you can care about people without having to meet them all of the time.
How many of us have watched a commercial or a movie, and you get wrapped up in the characters.
For me, it's like I've known some of you for years. And you've told me your story, and I'm following along.
It's like we already have a relationship. I feel like I've already met you, and some of you I have met in my hang out.
So yes, I do care. And I care because I'm human, and I care about other humans. And I care about the human condition.
And we're all in it, right. And however we can help one another is wonderful.
And I care a lot. And that's why I do this.
So. I don't really know how else to explain it, other than say,
I do, just believe me. Or I wouldn't do this at all. Right.
Okay. I love you all.
Tomorrow is Wednesday.
So I will be on youtube, and my website.
katimorton.com
So I will see you then, ask your questions using the
#KatiFAQ and I will talk to you tomorrow. Bye!
